Did you know that after a traumatic injury, hemorrhage is responsible for over 35% of pre-hospital deaths and over 40% of deaths within the first 24 hours? External hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death in the prehospital environment. The Bleeding Control Basics (BCon) course teaches participants basic life-saving interventions, including bleeding control with a tourniquet and bleeding control with gauze packs or hemostatic agents. The White House in 2015 launched a national campaign called Stop the Bleed as a means to encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. The course is designed for event-staff, teachers, security personnel, firefighters, non-tactical law enforcement officers, and other civilians requiring this basic training.
There are no prerequisites for this class. No medical experience is necessary. All practice materials will be provided.
